Burning Flag’s 3rd album Matador is equal parts crushing, subterranean, atmospheric and galloping momentum. It has a heavy dose of the sonics of modern metal, but at it’s heart it is political punk says Nathan Brown.
Dismissing Burning Flag as “Scathing Northern Punk Noise” as they claim on Facebook would be selling them short. Their music will be right up your alley if you love a bit of the old “crust”. Where metal meets punk, with pounding drums and anarcho attitude. They’ve listened to rule number one of punk: hit the drums hard. Downtuned guitars with the odd minor chord ooze heaviness with the metally tone providing a satisfying elastic twang from single strings here and there. Combined with the crushing bass sound, at times the music is dark enough to sound subterranean. There are brief moments where they have a more atmospheric feel with a hint of Killing Joke and the death rock sound. Whilst they start off at breakneck speed, Burning Flag don’t rely on this gimmick, using heaviness and good driving riffs to power the album along....."

Diakron is a band that grew out of a recording made by Andreas (ex-Counterblast, Hexgrafv), Palle and Jocke, also the former members of Counterblast and active in Sanctum and Pale. The idea was from the beginning to record some song ideas left after Counterblast closed in 2017. Once started, the song list was filled with new compositions and now, there are eleven of them. Relatively new band from Sweden with their first LP filled with 10 tracks of raging hardcore punk. Features members from Makabert Fynd, Passiv Dödshjälp and Vengeance of Karma and in a way that sums up the sound of this. It doesn’t really sound like those bands, but there are traces of both Makabert Fynd and Passiv Dödshjälp in there, not too familiar with Vengeance of Karma though.Anyway, quality Swedish hardcore punk with some cool melodic sections where the vocals and guitars follow eachother in a way that has me thinking a bit of Oral. Well, well… enough with comparing to other bands, Förgiftad are strong enough on their own merits.
"Sweden's Arrogant State kick this off with two tracks straight from the 'Fifteen Counts Of Arson' playbook – sure, things are a bit faster and a bit rougher round the edges, but the comparison is unavoidable. This said, there's plenty of energy and 'Gruesome Warcrimes' has some pretty nifty guitarwork going on, so despite being insanely derivative I can get on well enough with it all. Slutet, on the flip, are also Swedish and also play crusty D-beat. Theirs is a bit claggier, with burlier vocals and riffs that tend to stick to the roof of your mouth.
