Turquoise, Sang, Larmes & Râles - LP

Turquoise, Sang, Larmes & Râles - LP

Two years after their debut “Hantise”, Paris’ best – and sole – käng unit TURQUOISE are back with a new album entitled ”Sang, larmes et râles”. If you expected a drastic change in terms of songwriting then you’re in for a major disappointment and you’re clearly deluded. However, if you crave for an extra portion of abrasive Swedish-style hardcore sung (well…) in French with lyrics dealing with our chaotic time, then this is exactly what you need. This time around the band went for a rockier feel without losing the aggression and focused on writing mean choruses that even the most inept singers should be able to shout along to. Eight songs of totalitarian hardcore in 16 minutes, no arsing around. The brilliant artwork reminiscent of anguished outsider art was drawn by the talented Alan Doyle and “Sang, larmes et râles” is released on Symphony of Destruction and Les Choeurs de l’Ennui. Go to your favourite off-licence and grab the thing.

Bombardement, EP - 7”

Bombardement, EP - 7”

Last Rites, In Crust We Trust Vol.18) The new 4-song EP.from Bordeaux band Bombardement follows the same fleet-footed and skull-hammering trajectory as their 2019 self-titled LP. The band dispense earth-quaking d-beat and wall-shaking hardcore backed by new vocalist Oriane’s dynamic howls. Ridiculously catchy tracks like “Blood. Cash. Self-Destruction,” “Abyssal Grave,” and “Summoning Flames” are cut with sky-rocketing solos—and they hit like a runaway truck—while the rollicking “My Own Satan” features a punchy pub-rock vibe that calls to mind the best work of Amyl and the Sniffers.
Bombardement’s stampeding new EP is a whale of a time from its first seconds to its last. The band sound even more lively and inspired than they did on their fired-up LP, and Bombardement’s new tracks exude all the throttling riffs, breakneck drums, and scorching vocals you could ever desire. Even better, Bombardement sound like they’re having a total blast here, and the sweet Dark Lord knows we need all the high-speed and high-spirited punk we can get right now. More, please! ASAP!

Global Thermonuclear War - Total Demonstration LP

Global Thermonuclear War - Total Demonstration LP

Global Thermonuclear War, a recording project that teams up Shite from Rigorous Institution and Karl, the drummer from Suck Lords and Crucified Class. "Seeking Mastery" sounds like something that might have come out of the late 80s UK, which makes when you think about it. Shite’s other band sounds a lot like Amebix, and bands like Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror adopted the metal-punk approach of bands like Amebix and Deviated Instinct, combining them with a Siege-inspired, blastbeat-heavy drumming—something Karl showed his facility with in his other band—to creative an exciting new sound. I hear a lot of E.N.T. in particular in Global Nuclear War’s sound, partly because there aren’t metal guitar leads and partly because the music is just so gnarly and ugly… it sounds like crawling on your knees across a bed of broken glass. And as with both Rigorous and Suck Lords’ music, Global Thermonuclear War’s songs are free of the obvious and the cliche. That’s true of Shite’s lyrics, which focus on the most fucked up aspects of today’s world: factory farming, economic “migration,” the bloody imperialist games of nation-states… the lyrics are as direct and uncompromising (though not as succinct) as Discharge, and have the plain-spoken wisdom of someone gifted with the ability to see straight through bullshit. Seeking Mastery is just a great tape, urgent, exciting, fresh, and punk as fuck. (Daniel / Sorry State)

Gurs, Gerran Bizi Gara - LP

Gurs, Gerran Bizi Gara - LP

After a first 4 songs EP out in 2022, the four rats from Bilbo joined again to Corsario Studios to record their first LP during summer 2023.
This new album "Gerran Bizi Gara" ("We live in war" in Basque language) has a darker touch and draws on post-punk and hardcore, creating a mix that is difficult to label. As for the lyrics, they maintain the political and anti-capitalist essence but from a more notable nostalgia and frustration than on the previous album.
8 brillant tracks, mastered by Will Killingsworth and housed in a screenprinted cover nicely illustrated by Aritz Aranburu.

Fauchese, Rêve Électrique - LP

Fauchese, Rêve Électrique - LP

Faucheuse are a bit like your usual favourite meal but with a different sauce and seasoning. And while you wouldn’t think this favourite meal of yours - one you’ve been eating exactly the same way for years - could be cooked differently and still taste brilliant, it does, in a spectacular fashion.

Faucheuse are from Bordeaux (France’s national d-beat sanctuary) and play an incredible original blend of classic, fist-pumping, riff-driven Totalitär-style käng hardcore done to perfection and epic head-banging hard rock’n’roll. Not the boring “d-beat’n’roll” bollocks, the tasty stuff.

The songwriting is ace and clearly thought-out. All the elements, from the thundering guitar leads and solos (with an almost heavy-metal quality at times), the groovy bass variations, the presence of “unorthodox” instruments, the clever use of pauses, the songs’ structures to the vocals’ changes of tines, contribute to the genuine narrative quality of the songs. It’s not arty or anything, it’s still raw d-beat hardcore but more subtle than your common Dis. It’s got style and it rocks hard.
Emilie sings her heart out and deals in tunes instead of screams, unusual for the genre indeed. It takes a moment to get used to it but it makes the music even more energetic, dynamic (those mid-paced songs…), and catchy. I am hearing vintage heavy-metal and classic French punk-rock in the singing style but to be honest it sounds pretty unique.

Who said d-beat hardcore was bound to be unoriginal? This Lp contains five brand new songs on one side and the ones from the demo tape on the other. Let’s welcome Faucheuse, the Paintbox of käng hardcore. (Terminal Sound Nuisance)

Bombardement, Le Futur Est Là - LP

Bombardement, Le Futur Est Là - LP

"The war currently happening at the edge of Europe and the threat of a larger scale conflict make it so awkward to promote a record. The name Bombardement has never sounded scarier and more relevant. Le Futur Est Là, written and recorded during pandemic lockdowns, features 8 new songs of the same old menacing d-beat driven hardcore punk with flashing guitars aplenty, and vocalist Oriane now raging in French." Rigorous Institution, Cainsmarch - LP

Rigorous Institution, Cainsmarch - LP

"After three highly praised 7” eps, RIGOROUS INSTITUTION rises from the shadowy dripping streets of Portland, OR to deliver us their 1st full length album. Full of scathing vocals with smart, bleak lyrics (that border on poetry at times), axe grinding riffs, driving, dirty bass lines, hypnotic percussion, atmospheric synthesizer and a sense of droning paranoia scattered throughout its entirety. Yes, this is what one could call crust, but it feels too easy to use that word. These weirdos veer into seldom ventured territories that go from ripping to horrific soundscapes that make one's skin crawl as much as their fists pump. Picture John Carpenter joining forces with AMEBIX in 1982 and it will give you an idea of what this epic 12” will bring. This might just be the perfect soundtrack for the current state of the world." - Symphony of destruction
