Skitsystem, Grå Värld Svarta Tankar - CD

Skitsystem, Grå Värld Svarta Tankar - CD

" Recorded in 1999 and originally released in Sweden on Distortion, this is the first Skitsystem LP. (although they had released a 10" previously) Skitsystem took the world of hardcore and metal by storm in the late 90's by honing the swedish d-beat crust-core sound. They unleashed a punishingly brutal mix of 80's Swedish hardcore like Anti Cimex, Crudity, Crude SS and Avskum with the dark sounds of Swedish Death Metal. The music and lyrics combine to form a bleak, rage fueled view of the "gray world, black thoughts." Skitsystem has the drive and power of D-beat raw punk charging forward with just enough of the melody of Swedish metal in their two guitar assault to keep things from running into a wall of noise." - Havoc records

Inepsy, No Speed Limit For Destruction - CD

"Anticipated 3rd LP/CD by these canadian road warriors. They came out of nowhere with a fresh sound, stuck to it for their second LP, and turned up the filthy rock influences on this third one. More TANK, more KISS, less D-beat. Still the same old band though. Great production as usual, characteristic artwork, and a solid release." - Interpunk

Auktion, D-beat Rock ‘n’ Roll Mayhem - CD

Auktion, D-beat Rock ‘n’ Roll Mayhem - CD

"Here's the debut full-length from this extremely young looking Swedish band who plays a very rocked out form of hardcore/punk with a dual vocal attack of fierce screams backed by even higher screams, and they actually manage to come across without sounding generic, which is really cool. Rock 'n' roll influences may be a very typical influence for a lot of hardcore/punk bands today, but these kids aren't rehashing typical 70's rock chord progressions or anything at all. Sure, every now and then a little of that will pop up, but the overall feel is much more of a modern spin on such classic fare, with a decent amount of melodic licks and some really nice lead work that seems a little tongue-in-cheek at times but does indeed add to the songs. "En Ny Generation St?veltramp" is among the faster and more energetic tracks in terms of relentless vocal attacks and driving rhythms with a good sense for transitions, "Ett Liv Som F?nge" seems sparser at times but borders on some catchy elements and just has a different kind of sound than many of the other songs, while "F?rdummad Av Status" is another fast 'n' fierce number with a good blend of hardcore and rock influences for another energetic and memorable minute-long blast of material. The production is pretty good in my opinion. I think they should turn up the bass since the guitars aren't all that thick, but the drums sound good, they do a good job of balancing the vocals and the guitars, etc. The guitar tone works pretty well for the rocked out nature of their riffing, too. The layout is all done in black and white with lots of collaged photos and a cover that clearly mocks the "Appetite for Destruction" artwork. The lyrics are a mix of Swedish and English and song explanations are included throughout. Despite standard attacks on cops, war, and that kind of thing, the only thing that annoys me about the lyrics are tracks like "Scouting the Target, Planning the Action" that are all amped up on "The Anarchist Cookbook" and encouraging people to take action and pose a "threat to society", which just seems immature and falsely idealistic to me (especially since sometimes their sense of humor isn't as clear on such topics). But other than that they do have some good ideas in place, and the content seems sincere. Not bad. I definitely dig the sense of creativity in their riffing style and overall approach, it's just that the songwriting isn't all that memorable or powerful to me at the moment, but as they grow into their chosen niche I think they'll progress nicely on that front." - Aversion online

Nailbiter, Abused - CD

Nailbiter, Abused - CD

"Taking their name from an Anti Cimex song, this UK trio (whose members are originally from Brazil and Italy) dishes out some thick and powerful hardcore that, just as the label accurately proclaims, is a mix of heavy Scandinavian and Japanese hardcore with some Mot?rhead thrown in for good measure. I hate to basically reiterate that point, but damn if isn't pretty much dead on. Expect fairly quick songs with lots of churning chord progressions and burly vocal shouts, as well as some rock-based rhythms and solos to boot. It's a pretty straightforward record. There's not a great deal of diversity from song to song, but you can definitely sense their core influences playing a role in each track. If you told me this band was from Japan I'd probably fall for it, because the vocals really have a crazy indecipherable ring to them, and I love that aspect. Darker tracks like "Blade" definitely stand out, what with the killer intro of clean guitars and the slower, more melodic leads. And of course they throw in a cover of Anti Cimex ("Daughters of Pride") to end the disc. I love the recording. This fucker is chock full of great distorted textures on both the guitar and the bass, with natural sounding drums and a solid mix that keeps everything dense and even. I don't have any complaints, really. The vocals can get slightly out front when they're doubled, but that's rare, and far from a disruption. I think everything sounds damn good. The layout keeps things very simple and to the point. The outer booklet is mostly white with a tiny photo of each band member, the band name in plain type, and an incredible full color cover painting that looks more like a combination of Manowar/Mot?rhead artwork than it does anything you'd expect to see on a hardcore record. Inside the lyrics appear in plain white type over a straight black background, and in the Discharge style each song contains barely over four lines of lyrics (granted the subject matter is on a different level). "You raise your fist for another campaign, Once more you are looking for someone to blame, You raise your fist for another campaign, Everyone's fault but one has to pay." I wish this was longer... 7 tracks and barely over 20 minutes leaves me wanting more. But it's definitely better to keep things brief and leave the listener hungry than to beat them over the head, so... check this one out. Hardcore Holocaust has yet to disappoint." Aversion online

Deny / Chörnobyl, split 7”

Deny / Chörnobyl, split 7”

A fresh joint-release between Flykstoda, Phobia Records, Dark Elk and Talk With Your Boots. This is a split EP from CHØRNOBYL and DENY, two bands hailing from Sweden. Whereas you might be familiar with DENY from their “Dystopia” LP, CHØRNOBYL debuts here. Featuring members of MYTERI, LIPTONES and MAHALIUM, CHØRNOBYL cultivate what is best in Sweden’s hardcore punk: dark sound, d-beat pace, lots of distortion and Swedish lyrics. A band to follow for sure. DENY have a brighter and clearer sound and there’s a lot more melody in their d-beat and neo crust mix. A great wee 7” to own and listen to. Well done.

Genöme, Young Beautiful & Free - tape

Genöme, Young Beautiful & Free - tape

Loud and noisy crasher mangel crusty punk from Malmö Sweden. Genöme makes a follow up to their ”The Sound Of Loud Ringing In The Ear – tape” this time with some changes within the band that can be noticed in a good way. As a new bassplayer has taken control of the noise it's been a more distincts way of bringing out the wall of thundernoise. The satisfying and chaotic combination of the mental drumming, noisy guitar and furious vocals makes this a full on mad and powerfull follow up. This wont dissapoint you crasher noise crusters out there.
