After a first 4 songs EP out in 2022, the four rats from Bilbo joined again to Corsario Studios to record their first LP during summer 2023.This new album "Gerran Bizi Gara" ("We live in war" in Basque language) has a darker touch and draws on post-punk and hardcore, creating a mix that is difficult to label. As for the lyrics, they maintain the political and anti-capitalist essence but from a more notable nostalgia and frustration than on the previous album.8 brillant tracks, mastered by Will Killingsworth and housed in a screenprinted cover nicely illustrated by Aritz Aranburu.
Global Thermonuclear War, a recording project that teams up Shite from Rigorous Institution and Karl, the drummer from Suck Lords and Crucified Class. "Seeking Mastery" sounds like something that might have come out of the late 80s UK, which makes when you think about it. Shite’s other band sounds a lot like Amebix, and bands like Napalm Death and Extreme Noise Terror adopted the metal-punk approach of bands like Amebix and Deviated Instinct, combining them with a Siege-inspired, blastbeat-heavy drumming—something Karl showed his facility with in his other band—to creative an exciting new sound. I hear a lot of E.N.T. in particular in Global Nuclear War’s sound, partly because there aren’t metal guitar leads and partly because the music is just so gnarly and ugly… it sounds like crawling on your knees across a bed of broken glass. And as with both Rigorous and Suck Lords’ music, Global Thermonuclear War’s songs are free of the obvious and the cliche. That’s true of Shite’s lyrics, which focus on the most fucked up aspects of today’s world: factory farming, economic “migration,” the bloody imperialist games of nation-states… the lyrics are as direct and uncompromising (though not as succinct) as Discharge, and have the plain-spoken wisdom of someone gifted with the ability to see straight through bullshit. Not the boring “d-beat’n’roll” bollocks, the tasty stuff.The songwriting is ace and clearly thought-out. All the elements, from the thundering guitar leads and solos (with an almost heavy-metal quality at times), the groovy bass variations, the presence of “unorthodox” instruments, the clever use of pauses, the songs’ structures to the vocals’ changes of tines, contribute to the genuine narrative quality of the songs. It’s not arty or anything, it’s still raw d-beat hardcore but more subtle than your common Dis. It’s got style and it rocks hard.Emilie sings her heart out and deals in tunes instead of screams, unusual for the genre indeed. It takes a moment to get used to it but it makes the music even more energetic, dynamic (those mid-paced songs…), and catchy. I am hearing vintage heavy-metal and classic French punk-rock in the singing style but to be honest it sounds pretty unique.Who said d-beat hardcore was bound to be unoriginal? this long time sold out record will be available again sometime in october 2016'Tharn' (meaning 'fear') is a single-track remix release of 'Dominion Theology' taken from their latest album 'Elil', but feels more like a teaser for new material from Brighton's Fall of Efrafa.Paper Aeroplane, the remix masters at work here have turned what is a harsh and bleak track and infused it with piano, cello and a sense of post-rock pleasantries.Their wording of this in release material as a 're-imagining' of the track, although a stomach-churning term, in this case is accurate.Taking sections of guitar and sections of the relentless heaviness and turning it into almost a soundtrack-like piece of music is a great way to manipulate and show off FoE's grandeur in a way they had obviously not thought of before.it was released on 300 one-sided LPs with a beautiful screen-printed b-side, this release is sold out since a super long time, which shows you how fast word travels on a fantastic band.Big time instrumental emo (circa 1994-style) complete with piano and a cello to round out a well developed and executed piece of music. Gruff, yelled vocals make a brief appearance after a l...o...n...g calm and help usher things into more of a concerted song - yes, song, singular. The one songed, one-sided 12" has a beautifully screened B-side that does not play music. The side that does is comprised mostly of singular instruments slowly coalescing and ultimately reaching a crescendo of epic...ness. Dreary, emotional, and made for certain rainy nights alone, this is bringing me back to sad days in high school. Apparently known in some circles of heavyier music, FALL OF EFRAFA has taken a piece of music originally done by PAPER AEROPLANE and given it their personal touch of eloquence. For fans of GOSPEL, DROWNING WITH OUR ANCHORS, and MINERAL.
