"Buzzing, frantics riffs with Burning Spirits-like melodies blasted onto tight, fast-paced drumming. The record bursts as suddenly as this review, it’s right on. There is no bullshit or lead-up. The singer screams in desperate horror balanced with tired disgust. The record maintains a constant push. It’s dirty, distorted into a mush, and urgent—so it sounds real. So far, so good. My excitement only lowers when I start to pay attention to the songs and then find myself left behind by the record’s busting energy. Even if loud and distorted, the rather mid-tempo, rocking tracks at the middle of the album start to lack the chaotic, absurd mess. It is still hardcore, a solid take, but as the songs lay back, the noise cannot cover the drop in energy. Sliced up to couple 7”s, this might work better, because either the tricks to keep things varied within a massive work are not as effective, or the sound is too homogenous to remain entertaining throughout the whole record. It does not mean the record lacks any potential, although I have to play along with them and hype myself to really enjoy it, instead the other way around when I feel that the record attracts me to its own madness. Still, it’s great that such long-existing bands are putting out full-length albums, and the quality of this release is way above the average. Maybe I have a blind spot for them because there is nothing they should do differently. I hear the dedication and craft, but even after dozens of listening sessions, I still feel my excitement is not shaken. Maybe my expectations were too high? Marching out of Portugal armed with a katana sword, Nagasaki Sunrise pick up where they left us with their head-turning 2021 debut Distalgia, and they show no sign of slowing down. On the heels of their recent split album with Battlescars, this sophomore full-length carries on the heavy metal / punk fusion they excel at. They may wear their influences on their sleeves, they unmistakably sound like no one else – those vocals in particular are instantly recognizable and give Nagasaki Sunrise that extra pinch of epicness. Think Motörhead, Discharge, Venom, English Dogs, Black Uniforms, NWOBHM and classic heavy metal twin guitar harmonies aplenty, and Japanese hardcore of the Burning Spirits persuasion. Call it metalpunk, in one word, as if both genres were bound to meet and melt. Mostly up-tempo backed with a cruising, steady D-beat, they occasionally slow it down to mid-paced burners ("Bayonet Man"), emphasizing their hard rocking tendencies. Those guys can play and both axemen aren't shy on the tight fretboard gymnastics. The lyrical content of the band mostly revolves around the WWII Pacific War, and they provide the perfect soundtrack for it. They even expand to the Vietnam War ("Apocalypse Now!") and the Tunguska event in Siberia as well. Ten tracks that reek of denim and leather, bristles, studs, and acne. They got signed to Osmose Productions and have released seven full-length albums, and a variety of split releases to date. They are also strongly influenced by the sound of Discharge.Driller Killer was one of the first bands to implement death metal sound into a crust punk formula. KRIEGSHÖG is back. Five years after their last single and 14 since their debut album, the Tokyo Hardcore band finally delivers a new release.
Love and Revenge is a record of consummate savagery and monster riffs. Picking up where Paint It Black 7” left, and moving forward as a heavy toned hardcore record that finds the band in its own realm. While following the Japanese tradition of long running bands operating at their own pace and mastering their sound along the way. The band leave behind their speedier sound, moving now at a slower tempo but still pummelling their riffing sound. The incorporation of a new drummer, adds much more than a steady beat, amplifying the KRIEGSHÖG sonic experience. Their sound is bass-driven to the point of near hypnosis, becoming quasi-psychedelic at times. The guitar tone is a nasty crunch and the vocal delivery has only got more brutal, with a glass eating demon on the mic conjuring the darkest side of your soul. Perfect for night rides into the abyss.
Their influences are still there. With KURO, ZOUO or THE CLAY shaking hands with the darkest 70’s hard rock via JERUSALEM and modern stoner rock via KYUSS or SLEEP. And the band motto still remains the same… PLAY LOUD AND DIE.

"BLACK UNIFORMS are one of the most cult bands from an already-cult scene. Originally active from 1981-1983 and then from 1986 until the beginning of the '90s, BLACK UNIFORMS hailed from the Swedish hardcore punk scene, which sprung up in the wake of Discharge's landmark Why? and then took on a life of its own, often out-Discharging Discharge and successively becoming its own influential paradigm that still endures to this day. As such, BLACK UNIFORMS early on bore the distinct mark of Discharge, but particularly during their second run, just like many hardcore-punk bands the world over, they took on a thrashier aspect that many of the original UK82 bands helped jumpstart - namely The Exploited, English Dogs, and especially Broken Bones. Retroactively, BLACK UNIFORMS are most renown for the membership of one Cliff Lundberg, who played bass for Moderat Likvidation during the former's first hiatus but more so as guitarist for Anti-Cimex's massively influential second period before then going on to form the legendary Driller Killer."
