(Sorry state) Debut vinyl from this French d-beat band. Bombardement takes a lot of inspiration from Discharge, as do a lot of bands these days. However, Bombardement doesn’t sound like many other modern d-beat bands. First, the recording is not self-consciously raw. This 12” has a big, clear, and modern sound that is heavy and thick without sounding polished or anything like stadium crust. Second, Bombardement seems to borrow more heavily from the Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing era of Discharge than the earlier singles and Why? MLP. Just listen to the track “Greed Prevails.” The main riff is a descendent of “Drunk With Power,” which is a strange Discharge track in how the riff seems to float rather than rip, rage, or crush, and Bombardement accentuates that quality with an excellent, lengthy guitar solo section in the middle. While I love the moments on this record that feel stretched out, Bombardement can also write a grade A ripping d-beat track, as evidenced by “Wheel of Destruction” and “The Brink of Collapse.” While much of the d-beat world’s attention seems focused on releases that are very noisy and/or psychedelic, Bombardement explores a whole different corner of the Discharge aesthetic here and, in the process, delivers a crushing record.

Debut LP from Halifax, Nova Scotia's crasher crusties Fragment. A full on attack of raw feedback and reverb saturated crust punk in the tradition of Gloom. This crew has been making crusty noise happen in northern Canada for years (many will be familiar with Contagium in which a couple of these guys played) and they know how to write a killer song. Unlike many bands that take this kind of wall of reverb approach to crust (say Framtid or Ferocious X) Fragment draws less on the Swedish classics in their riffs and more on the early crust scene in England. The dark energy of Deviated Instinct or Axegrinder is definitely an influence here. If you like your punk blown out and crushing this is for you. For fans of Lastly, Aspects of War, Rednecks, Kromosom, etc.

Malmö rawmangel split. Lautstürmer delivers the highly full speeded metalic punk mangel as always, a brilliant up to date with their special way of nailing the d-beated mayhem and their awesome riffing. As the energy level couldnt be more there's always a lust for yet a nother song wheyn it comes to these guys. Remiso follows this split with their furious and political rawpunk anger with a big touch of metalic solos and riffing to it. As their origins makes it even more clear when the vocals are spat out in the furious potuguese toung, as this three piece band has their orgins in Chile, Brazil and Sweden, you get the special south american feelin of raw and frustrated rawpunk. A brilliant split to say the least.
